Designer Assistant

Designer Assistant Job Summary

The Designer’s Assistant supports the lead designer in the planning, development, and execution of design projects. This role involves administrative support, research, coordination of materials, client communication, and assistance with creative tasks to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Design Support

  • Assist the designer in developing concepts, sketches, layouts, and presentations.

  • Prepare mood boards, design samples, and visual materials.

  • Conduct research on design trends, colors, materials, and market developments.

  • Help source fabrics, materials, furniture, graphics, or other design components, depending on the industry.

  • Maintain design files and project documentation.

Project Coordination

  • Track project timelines and deadlines.

  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, contractors, and clients.

  • Schedule meetings, appointments, and site visits.

  • Monitor project progress and follow up on outstanding tasks.

  • Assist in preparing project proposals and presentations.

Administrative Duties

  • Manage correspondence, emails, and phone calls.

  • Organize and maintain office records and digital files.

  • Process orders, invoices, and purchase requests.

  • Maintain inventory of samples, supplies, and design materials.

  • Perform general office administrative tasks as required.

Client Support

  • Assist with client presentations and meetings.

  • Respond to client inquiries professionally and promptly.

  • Record meeting notes and communicate action items to the design team.

  • Help ensure client requirements and expectations are met.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a design environment is an advantage.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Excellent attitude working in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving.

  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Basic project management capabilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and design software a plus.

Working Conditions

  • May work in an office, studio, showroom, or on-site project locations.

  • Occasional travel may be required for client meetings, sourcing materials, or project installations.

  • Flexible hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines.

Performance Expectations

  • Deliver accurate and timely support to the designer.

  • Maintain organized project records and materials.

  • Contribute positively to the creative process.

  • Ensure professionalism in all client and vendor interactions.

  • Support successful completion of design projects within budget and schedule.

Reports To: Owner/Lead Designer
Employment Type: Part-Time 25-30 hrs
Salary Range: Based on experience and qualifications.



Pay Details: $18.00 to $25.00 per hour
