Olsten Staffing is assisting a local client in Cheraw, South Carolina to find an experienced and eager Front End Operator to join their growing team!

A front end operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining bodymakers, ironers, trimmers, and related production equipment to manufacture aluminum cans that meet quality and customer specifications. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity while performing equipment adjustments, inspections, and routine preventive maintenance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate bodymakers, ironers, trimmers, and associated equipment during production.

  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure machine guards and safety devices remain in place at all times.

  • Perform quality inspections throughout each shift to identify defects such as score marks, earing, pinching, thinning, lubrication issues, and trim defects.

  • Shut down equipment immediately when defective product or unsafe conditions are identified.

  • Conduct coil changeovers, including inspecting coils for damage, positioning coils correctly, and threading mandrels.

  • Set up and adjust machine timing, trim height, dome depth, and tooling to meet customer specifications.

  • Pull production samples after tooling changes to verify proper equipment setup and quality standards.

  • Record production and quality data to ensure product traceability.

  • Remove scrap from dies and equipment prior to machine startup.

  • Clear equipment jams and troubleshoot production issues to minimize downtime.

  • Perform routine lubrication and basic preventive maintenance on production equipment.

  • Inspect trim quality and verify can dimensions at required intervals.

  • Monitor cup elevators and equipment for damage, scrap buildup, or operating issues.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all company housekeeping standards.

  • Work closely with maintenance, quality, and production teams to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous manufacturing or machine operator experience preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions and quality specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and reach throughout the shift.

  • Comfortable working around moving machinery, noise, heat, and industrial equipment.

  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.

Pay Details: $14.00 per hour
