Olsten Staffing is assisting a local client in Cheraw, South Carolina to find an experienced and eager Accounting Assistant to join their growing team!
The Accounting Assistant supports the daily operations of the Student Accounts Office by assisting students, faculty, and staff with tuition payments, account balances, financial records, and general accounting tasks. This position helps maintain accurate student account information, processes payments, and provides excellent customer service in a fast-paced educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Process student tuition and fee payments, refunds, and account adjustments
Maintain accurate student financial records in the college accounting/student information system
Assist students and families with questions regarding billing, payment plans, account balances, and deadlines
Reconcile daily cash receipts, credit card transactions, and deposits
Prepare and maintain financial reports, spreadsheets, and documentation
Support accounts receivable functions, including collections and payment follow-up
Assist with semester registration payment verification and holds
Respond to phone calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries professionally and courteously
Ensure compliance with institutional policies and financial procedures
Assist with audits and record retention as needed
Perform general administrative and clerical duties for the Business Office
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, cashiering, or office administration
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and data entry
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
Preferred:
Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
Experience working in higher education or student accounts
Familiarity with accounting or student information systems (Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft, etc.)
Experience handling confidential financial information
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Professional demeanor when working with students and the public
Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy in financial records
Work Environment:
Office setting within a college campus
Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community members
May require extended hours during registration and payment deadlines

Pay Details: $15.00 per hour
