Title: Manufacturing –Tool & Die Maker Sr

Job Description
Analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machines and tools and fitting and assembling parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinist's hand tools.

Key Accountabilities
Studies blueprints or specifications and visualizes shape of die, part, or tool.  Computes dimensions of assembly and plans sequence of operations.  Measures, marks, and scribes metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers.  Sets up and operates machine tools such as band saw, lathes, milling machines, drill press and grinders to machine parts.  Lifts, positions, and secures machined parts on surface plate or worktable, using hoist, vises, v-blocks or angle plates.  Smoothes and polishes flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloth, or power grinder.  Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.  Fits and assembles parts using bolts, glue and other fasteners and hand tools, such as hammers and wrenches.  Checks part or tool for hardness using hardness tester.  Repairs or modifies tools and dies using machine tools and hand tools.  Designs tools, jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids.  Tests die for first hit to insure quality of part.  Inspects die for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects by touch or visually, using loupe or microscope.  AVAILABLE TO WORK ANY SHIFT AS NEEDED.

Qualifications/Requirements
Tool & Die Associate's Degree or Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification required.
CNC machining experience required.
Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, precision measuring tools, and machining processes.
Experience operating manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses.
Ability to troubleshoot tooling and assist with process improvements and repairs.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time during the shift.
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching while performing job duties.
Ability to use hands for fine manipulation, gripping, and operating hand tools and precision instruments.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils, and metal debris.
Must be able to visually inspect parts and read precision measuring instruments.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves and steel-toed shoes.
